Tiger safari is what most people arrive at Sariska for, and justifiably so. Sariska is more than just the drive in its beautiful forest. There are so many fabulous things to do in Sariska that you can make your stay two or three days and come back home way richer with memories.

Visit the Neelkanth Temples

One of the most stunning and underrated things in Rajasthan. The Neelkanth temple complex, hidden inside the Sariska forest area, dates back between 6 and 10 centuries AD, made up of more than 300 old temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, a set of beautifully carved stone temples.

The journey to the temples leads you through pristine forest, where you're almost guaranteed to see some wildlife along the route. The temples are quiet, mostly deserted and steeped in a history that stays with you. When the light is soft, and the forest sleeps, go in the morning.

Explore Kankwari Fort

Kankwari Fort, a Mughal fort atop a hill inside Sariska, where we can access via jeep through the forest. It's a fort with historical significance, as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb is said to have held his brother Dara Shikoh captive here.

Once there, the views from the summit are spectacular; you can see all of Aravalli in every direction. A lookout over Jaipur is one of the finest in Rajasthan and is worth visiting for all those who are near the reserve.

Boating at Siliserh Lake

Located around 35 Kms away from Sariska, Siliserh Lake ranks as one of the quieter spots in the vicinity. The lake, set among low Aravalli hills and stunning at dawn and dusk, was built by a 19th-century Maharaja of Alwar for his queen.

There are many chances for boating, a wonderful way to spend a morning or an evening. The lakeside heritage hotel allows visitors to eat as well. After the tiring forest, Siliserh Lake is your answer to a quiet break.

Birdwatching

Sariska has also more than 200 bird species, all of which, bar the big cats, are a lot easier to see. Take binoculars outside, and you will be amazed. At the reserve, one can spot the crested serpent eagle, Indian grey hornbill and painted sandgrouse as well as numerous species of kingfishers.

The forest fringes around resorts in Sariska, and the areas near lakes are famous birdwatching locales. Get advice from your resort team about the best spots to be in this season.

Visit Pandupol Temple

Pandupol is a small temple in the Sariska forest which has spiritual significance, at least not word Pandavas came here during the Mahabharata time for tracking as they were on their separation. Located is a reclined Hanuman deity, visited by many pilgrims and adventurers alike.

The drive along the forest trail to reach it is beautiful and unspoiled. It is not unusual to see wildlife on the way. One of those things to do in Sariska that most tourists skip, but everybody who visits is glad they did.

Explore Alwar City

Do not miss Alwar, located 35 km from Sariska, a city with a rich heritage and deserving of a half-day trip. Located within the City Palace, one can find many royal paintings along with manuscripts, armoury, and carriages in the Alwar Museum. The palace architecture is intimidating, the bazaars are chaotic, and the local food is tasty.

Alwar complements Sariska superbly by giving you an insight into the royal legacy of this part of the country.

Sunset Views from the Aravallis

Perhaps the easiest yet most gorgeous activities you will do in Sariska are to pick a vantage point and watch the sun set over the Aravalli hills. That golden light spilling over the rocks at dusk does not require planning, just an attentive eye and a still moment.

A number of the Sariska tiger reserve resorts have roofs or open spaces specially suited to this. A cup of chai, open sky, and the sound of the forest settling into the night, it's the type of thing you want to keep up with just one jagah pokdana.

Conclusion

Sariska is a lot more than just a destination for safari. Balanced between ancient temples, Mughal forts, holy lakes and the spectacular Aravalli backdrop, there are three solid days of things to do without repeating any.

To enjoy all of this, you need a good base close and comfortable. This is exactly the reason why Chokhiwadi emerges as one of the best choices of resorts in Sariska. The hospitality is warm, the food is traditional and tasty, and every day is planned to perfection by the team, from jungle excursions to heritage exploration. Beyond the saffron rooms, if you are looking for a place to stay in Sariska that is like home sweet home, Chokhiwadi is worth every will.
